Ahead of Father’s Day, parents and children from Mother’s Rise Up will make a Father’s Day appeal to Lloyds of London Chairman, Bruce Carnegie-Brown to stop insuring fossil fuels. Campaigners are taking action online by sending Carnegie-Brown Father’s Day cards, and in-person with a protest outside the companies’ London headquarters.
They will relay a simple but critical message: “Stop insuring dangerous fossil fuels projects and protect our children’s future and shared home! Insure our kids’ future!”
The parents will deliver a giant oil drum of dead flowers and an oversized Father’s Day card to Carnegie-Brown in a direct appeal to the father of four to stop Lloyd’s legacy of climate destruction and help protect all our children’s future.
While Lloyd’s European counterparts, such as AXA and Swiss Re, have already stopped insuring coal, tar sands and Arctic energy due to their climate impacts, Lloyd’s won’t stop providing cover for dirty energy projects until 2030. A recent report by the International Energy Agency said the exploitation and development of new oil and gas fields must stop this year and no new coal-fired power stations should be built if the world is to prevent catastrophic runaway climate change.
